IGS AI Lab

The IGS AI Lab aims to spark innovation, connect talent, and apply AI to real energy challenges while promoting a more digital and sustainable future.

Held as part of the International Geomechanics Conference (IGS)—organized by SLB in partnership with SEG, with the valued support of Dhahran Geoscience Society. Together, we aim to empower participants with real-world tools, mentorship, and challenges that drive meaningful impact across the energy sector bridging the gap between science, data, and digital transformation.

Each team will work virtually on 1 challenge to be solved within 1 month

Weekly knowledge sharing sessions delivered by SLB experts

What We Expect from You:

Over the course of the AI Lab, you’ll gain hands-on experience with SLB’s digital tools, access real industry datasets, and receive guidance from experienced mentors. Expect engaging knowledge sharing sessions, technical challenges, the opportunity to showcase innovative solutions.

Two Streams, One Journey: Online Learning Meets Real-world Impact

AI Lab Live (Stream 1)

A 4-week virtual series of interactive sessions exploring how AI is transforming the energy sector.

All sessions from AI Lab Live are now available on-demand for the next one year. Whether you’re revisiting topics or joining for the first time, you can access the full learning experience anytime, anywhere.

AI Hands-on Missions (Stream 2)

This stream challenges participants to tackle real-world industry problems, applying AI to optimize operations, enhance efficiency, and reimagine geoscience workflows.

Participants will work on up to three practical missions designed to bridge digital technology and geoscience insight:

  • Computer Vision – Use field images and videos to train AI models that deliver actionable insights.
  • Log Correlation – Build AI models to depth-match and analyze log responses.
  • GenAI Agent – Create a chatbot using LangChain to extract geomechanics calibration points.

Winners will be recognized at the IGS 2025 Conference, celebrating innovative approaches to applying AI across energy and geoscience disciplines.

Project submissions are open, deadline for submission: 9 November 2025. Submit your projects

Dual Submissions and Best Student Paper Award

  1. Each student may submit one abstract to theStudent Paper Contest (SPC)– kindly note that this is different from your abstract submission to the IGS program which could be considered for the Best Student Paper Award.
  2. If the eligibility criteria are met, and a student wins the Best Student Paper Award based on their IGS submission, they may still be eligible to receive a prize in the SPC, provided the SPC submission is a different abstract. In other words, a single abstract cannot be awarded a prize in both the Student Paper Contest and Best Student Paper.

Abstracts must be submitted through https://forms.gle/vsJguNH622ZMTcvR6
