Host Societies

The American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA) is a professional and international engineering and scientific society, which promotes interaction among specialists, practitioners, scholars, and educators in rock mechanics and geomechanics. ARMA advocates for individuals and firms in all aspects of rock mechanics and geomechanics, including multi-disciplinary rock physics and rock engineering technology advancement and technological applications for civil engineering, mining engineering and tunneling, oil and gas recovery, and geo-related socioeconomic problem-solving. ARMA provides a forum and information resources for members, related organizations, and the public, while a strong student membership ensures future continuity.

The Dhahran Geoscience Society (DGS) is a nonprofit organization based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The society was founded in 1987 by a group of enthusiastic geologists who anticipated the need for a platform to share technical ideas and promote professional development within the local oil and gas exploration community. The founders originally named the society the Dhahran Geological Society, but in 1998, DGS became known as the Dhahran Geoscience Society in its transformation to a multidisciplinary organization encompassing geology, geophysics, and related sciences. The main mission of the DGS is to provide technical and professional development for its members in the domain of exploration for, and development of, petroleum and mineral resources within Saudi Arabia.

The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) is a global not-for-profit organization with a mission of connecting the world of applied geophysics. Founded in 1930, SEG provides information, tools, and resources vital to advancing the science of exploration geophysics, fostering common scientific interests, supporting humanitarian efforts, and accelerating geophysical innovation. Inspiring the geophysicists of today and tomorrow, SEG’s long-standing tradition of excellence in education, professional development, new business generation, and engagement cultivates a unique community platform that encourages collaboration and thought leadership for the advancement of geophysical science around the world. Headquartered in Houston, Texas and with regional offices in Dubai, UAE; Beijing, China; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Tulsa, OK; SEG is a global society dedicated to enhancing the present and future of applied geophysics.

Partner Societies

The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), founded in 1917, has been a pillar of the world-wide scientific community. The original purpose of AAPG, to foster scientific research, to advance the science of geology, to promote technology, and to inspire high professional conduct, still guides the Association today. Currently the world’s largest professional geological society with approximately 23,000 members in 126 countries, AAPG provides publications, conferences, and educational opportunities to geoscientists and disseminates the most current geological information available to the general public.

Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering (CSRME) was formally established on March 5, 1985, and has run as an academic mass organization for serving scientific and technological workers who are engaged in rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering across the country. The CSRME currently has 45 branches, 20 local societies, 69 group members and more than 28,000 individual members, covering water conservancy and hydropower, coal and oil, geology and mining, environmental protection, national defense engineering. It is well-known domestically and internationally as an important academic organization in the field of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering with extensive influence across industries, departments and disciplines.

The European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) is a global professional, not-for-profit association for geoscientists and engineers with approximately 19,000 members worldwide. It provides a global network of commercial and academic professionals to all members. The association is truly multi-disciplinary and international in form and pursuits. The objectives of the Association shall be to promote the development and application of geosciences and related engineering subjects, to promote innovation and technical progress and to foster the communication, fellowship, and cooperation between those working in, studying or otherwise being interested in these fields. All members of EAGE are professionally involved in (or studying) geophysics, petroleum exploration, geology, reservoir engineering, mining and mineral exploration, civil engineering, tunneling and environmental matters. EAGE operates two divisions: the Oil & Gas Geoscience Division and the Near Surface Geoscience Division.

The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) brings together the mining and mineral industry’s brightest and most dedicated professionals. Over 13,000 global members advance their careers with the world-class technical resources, educational programs, networking opportunities and professional development tools from SME. Our members are focused on sharing best practices for safety, environmental stewardship and moving mining forward.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a not-for-profit professional association whose more than 124,800 members in 134 countries are engaged in oil and gas exploration and production. SPE is a key resource for technical knowledge providing opportunities to exchange information at in-person and online events and training courses, publications, and other resources.

The Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the advancement of the science of petrophysics and formation evaluation, through well logging and other formation evaluation techniques and to the application of these techniques to the exploitation of gas, oil and other minerals. Founded in 1959, SPWLA provides information services to scientists in the petroleum and mineral industries, serves as a voice of shared interests in our profession, plays a major role in strengthening petrophysical education, and strives to increase the awareness of the role petrophysics has in the Oil and Gas Industry and the scientific community.

The Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering Geology (SRMEG) is affiliated to and acts as the National Group for the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM) and the International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG). The society aims to promote technical and professional development of members, to interact with other professional organisations in matters of common interest, to promote the application of research and technologies to practices related to rock mechanics, rock engineering, and engineering geology, and to advance the standards of rock engineering and engineering geology practice. The Society frequently organises professional development courses related to the field of rock mechanics and engineering geology, as well as conferences and networking activities for its members.
