Geomechanics is fundamental to understanding the mechanisms of geohazards and their interactions with the environment. The International Geomechanics Conference provides a unique platform where cutting-edge science meets real-world risk reduction, bringing together established leaders and emerging researchers to advance safer, more resilient, and sustainable solutions.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing IGS evolve from its inaugural event into the premier global geomechanics conference. I invite colleagues from both industry and academia to join us in Chengdu. China, where we’ll continue to foster a vibrant community of experts, share cutting-edge knowledge, and shape the future of geomechanics together.

It’s a great honor to serve at the IGS committee again. This event has become an impactful and relevant hallmark for geo- and rock mechanics in the energy industry as well as civil engineering. It has created an unstoppable momentum and a community of followers with amazing enthusiasm and great excitement from all career levels (including students) that promotes and inspires professional excellence and fosters personal relationships alike. Way to go IGS2026 in Chengdu – cannot wait to be there!

IGS continues to be one of the defining gatherings of our geomechanics community; a dynamic forum where cutting-edge research, thoughtful dialogue, and meaningful collaborations converge. It provides a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen professional networks, and collectively advance the frontiers of geomechanics. Contributing to and serving this vibrant community is both an honor and a privilege.

As Publication Committee co-Chair, I hope to work with all participants during full publication lifecycle, ensuring rigorous peer review, high technical standards, and timely dissemination of scholarly contributions aligned with the IGS 2026 theme “Geomechanics: Innovations and Solutions for Energy, Environment and Deep Space.”

From attending the Conference for the past 3 years, I could testify it is arguably the best gathering of geomechanicists and geoscientists who share common passions in developing solutions for challenges in energy, sustainability and environment. You will meet leading multi-disciplinary experts in exploring the Conference’s comprehensive topics of current high interests ranging from Carbon Capture & Storage and Subsurface Hydrogen & Energy Storage, to Geomechanics in Geothermal, New Energy Systems, Petroleum, Mining, Geotechnics and Environmental.

Geoenergy exploration and exploitation, along with the utilization of subsurface space, are making geomechanics a key bridge between earth sciences and engineering. The IGS 2026 Conference brings together global peers to exchange insights on cutting-edge theories and technologies in geomechanics, promoting cooperation and disciplinary prosperity.
